Sandra Ramos (b. 1969) works between Miami and Havana and is one of Cuba’s best-known contemporary artists. Using materials ranging from painting and printmaking to video and installation, Ramos expresses her personal relationship to the social and political realities of life in Cuba. In her work, Ramos often references characters from history, literature and folklore, focusing on tales with a moral component. Sandra Ramos has exhibited extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and Cuba. Many permanent collections include her work, such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Fuchu Art Museum, Tokyo; Museum of Fine Art, Boston and Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana. Images of Ramos’ work have appeared in a multitude of books, catalogues and magazines around the world.
