Louisa Chase
Louisa Chase (1951-2016) was born in Panama City and grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She received her BFA from Syracuse University and her MFA from the Yale School of Art. Her neo-expressionist work explores the abstraction of human gestures and static geometric figures. Opaque geometric forms float among the hyperactivity of the background. Her pieces have been exhibited at the Daimaru Exhibition Hall in Osaka, Japan, the Cincinnati Art Museum, and the American Pavilion in Venice, Italy. Her work can also be seen in the collections of institutions including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Denver Art Museum, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
