Tandem Press is a fine art print publisher affiliated with the University of Wisconsin–Madison. For over 35 years, Tandem has collaborated with internationally renowned artists to produce original print editions and is widely recognized for its commitment to experimentation, collaboration, and ambitious print-based projects. As part of the UW–Madison Art Department in the School of Education, Tandem Press provides students and the public, in Wisconsin and beyond, with meaningful access to some of today’s most influential contemporary artists.
Presented at the Trout Museum of Art, this exhibition highlights those artists, showcasing a selection of Tandem’s most innovative projects—from Jeffrey Gibson’s Round Dancing printed on an elk-hide drum, to Jim Dine’s The Black and Red Heart, an impression created from a woodblock carved with a chainsaw, to Mickalene Thomas’s Interior: Zebra with Two Chairs and Funky Fur, a complex print-based collage made up of a multitude of processes and techniques. Taken together, the works in this exhibition reflect Tandem’s ongoing commitment to expanding what printmaking can be and to supporting the artists who dare to redefine it.
This exhibition is supported by the Trout Museum of Art.
