[Watch] Milwaukee Art Museum Virtual Opening Conversation: On Site: Derrick Adams: Our Time Together
Lisa Sutcliffe, Herzfeld Curator of Photography and Media Arts at the Milwaukee Art Museum, speaks with Derrick Adams about his new site-specific mural and sculptural installation at the museum. This work is inspired by Adams’ research into The Green Book, a Jim Crow era guidebook that listed which hotels and restaurants served African American patrons. Adams discusses how his research unfolded, its relation to major themes in his work, how he views collage as an artistic medium, and why Jacob Lawrence is his favorite artist of all time. Adams’ project debuted at the museum’s East End as part of the “On Site” exhibition series and is on view through 2023.
