In this film created by Ed Robbins, Lesley Dill discusses the striking eight-foot sculptures featured in her 2021 exhibition at Figge Art Museum, titled WILDERNESS: Light Sizzles Around Me, with Lacy Schutz, Executive Director of the Shaker Museum in Mount Lebanon. Dill delves into the overarching theme of wilderness in her work and its relationship to early White Settlers, Native Americans, and the stain of American Slavery. The two also talk about great historical women in the Shaker Church along with the Shaker’s relationship with Native Americans and their integration with black communities in the early 19th century.
